Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center Chengdu

Worldwide, the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centers are non-profit organizations run by voluntary staff and dedicated to the aim of disseminating the knowledge of Yoga. Chengdu branch has been in operation since October 2015. It moved to its present location on No.1 Xinxiwang Road since September 2016. We are part of a worldwide organization, the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centers, founded by Swami Vishnudevananda. Before he brought the knowledge and practice to the west in 1957, Swami Vishnudevananda studied and worked with his Guru, great sage Swami Sivananda in Rishikesh, India.

One of the great saints of modern times, Swami Sivananda is the inspiration behind the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center. Born in India, he served for many years as a medical doctor before renouncing worldly life and establishing the Sivananda Ashram and Divine Life Society in Rishikesh. A prolific writer, he authored about 300 books that offer knowledge and spiritual guidance to millions around the world. His mission can be summarized by his saying: “Serve, Love, Give, Purify, Meditate, Realize.”

Recognized worldwide as an authority on Hatha yoga and Raja yoga, Swami Vishnudevananda founded the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center in 1959. After spending 10 years with his guru, Swami Sivananda, Swami was sent to the West to disseminate the teachings of yoga and Vedanta. He was a visionary, dynamic leader for world peace, and he wrote the practical classics Complete Illustrated Book of Yoga and Meditation and Mantras.

Swami Sitaramananda is a direct disciple of Swami Vishnudevananda, who is a direct disciple of Swami Sivananda, since 1981 and was nominated acharya, senior teacher, by him in 1989.  She is presently acharya of US West coast Centers and Ashrams as well as Asia, especially Vietnam, China, and Japan. She is an internationally respected teacher who presents the intricate yoga philosophy and practice in a simple, down to earth and humorous manner. Her lectures are based on the four classical paths of yoga as well as the 5 points of Health. She is an expert in teaching Positive thinking and how to deal with the mind and the emotions. 



The vision of the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center Chengdu is to model the Yogic lifestyle, and provide a disciplined, compassionate space for practicing the tenets of simple, healthy living and high thinking. Yoga self-culture provides a holistic approach to body, mind and spirit, care for the individual, the community and the planet, living in peace, health and sustainability. Through healing our own bodies and minds, we unfold the capacity to play our part in the healing and caring for the whole planet.
